Very soon, Augsburg will host the main folk event of late summer – Herbstplärrer 2025. From August 22 to September 7, visitors can enjoy rides, bright shows, traditional festivities, and the famous Bavarian beer. The organizers promise both beloved classics and exciting new attractions.
When does Herbstplärrer start?
The festival officially begins on Friday, August 22, at 4:00 PM. As tradition dictates, the ceremonial tapping of the keg will take place in the Schaller Tent: Mayor Eva Weber will open the festival with the words “O’zapft is!”.
The festival runs until September 7.
“O’zapft is!” is the famous Bavarian expression used when a beer keg is tapped. In standard German, it means “Es ist angezapft,” and in English – “The barrel is open!” or “The beer is tapped!”. This phrase is traditionally proclaimed by the Mayor of Munich at Oktoberfest, while in Augsburg it is spoken by the Mayor at the start of Herbstplärrer. It signals: the festival has officially begun – raise your beer mugs!
